Rock & Roll Literally Rises From the Ashes! And Will Play Lithuania This Evening.

metallicaMetallica, long renowned as one of the hardest working bands in rock, was grounded, along with the rest of the world, by Eyjafjallajökull, which we actually thought was a black metal band from Norway until someone corrected us yesterday. James, Lars, Kirk and Robert sat stranded in Oslo while European councils and commissions argued over whether air travel was safe as the volcano spewed ash into the atmosphere, but the metal men finally were able to catch a bus and resume their tour schedule. No big deal right? Except they’d avoided traveling overnight by bus since a crash in 1986 killed then bassist Cliff Burton just across the away in Sweden. According to this story on Billboard, it was difficult for Hammett. “When we boarded the bus again this week and had to travel overnight, I realized that those bad memories are still here. I still haven’t overcome the fear of buses. But the show must go on,” Hammett said. The show must go on! They also had to take a boat to eventually make it to Riga, Latvia, but managed to catch a Metallica fan’s karaoke rendition of “Whiskey in a Jar” while onboard. You have to respect these dudes, even though Lars can be insufferable. If you happen to be in Europe any time over the next few months, go tip your hat at one or many of the dates listed after the jump.
