We Saw the Banksy Flick, Then Saw Shepard Fairey in Action

This year, the day that we usually set aside to honor marijuana, 4/20, was instead devoted to our fondness for street art—but far from being a buzzkill, it was actually kind of magical! Last night, on our way to see Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop, we happened to run into the mastermind behind Obey himself, Shepard Fairey, who was working on installing his new mural on the commissioned art wall down at Houston and Bowery on Manhattan's Lower East Side. It was serendipitous timing, as Fairey is featured prominently in the film, and he and his glue guys attracted quite an audience as they made sure every piece was in its place. In addition to Fairey's mural (which should be up right about now), we highly recommend Exit Through the Gift Shop, which focuses on the journey of Mr. Brainwash, who started off as a filmmaker and ended up as a street artist running around with his friends, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Neckface, and his cousin Invader, just to name a few. Check out some of our photos of Shepard Fairey after the jump. Then go peep the movie times, you may regret missing this one.
