Itemized: The Trovata Shirt Dress

Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Chioma Nnadi writes about the Trovata Shirt Dress.

To live and breathe comfortably in New York, I've always thought it best to leave the city as often as possible. Obviously without bottomless pits of time and/or money, getting away can be tricky, so I cheat. And by cheating I mean wearing outfits more suitable for distant places and exotic adventure than my daily commute on the F train, aka a mini vacay in my mind! Last week, for example, I wore the illest US Air Force jumpsuit to the office (extreme sports adventure get-away!) which made my coworkers worry that I might straight jump out the window.

This dress by Trovata totally takes me on an imaginary journey, and honestly makes me feel like I'm in another time and space altogether. It has alot to do with the oh-so-demure length of the dress. Coverage for summer is an inherently old-school concept which I'm actually thoroughly in to. Why does sexy always have to look like a boobquaking Vickie Secrets ad? What happened to mystery? Flashing a hint of your ankle to entice Mr Darcy? Anyway, I digress! The point is wafting around in this number gives me visions of Japanese garden parties in a heartbeat. I can almost smell the cherry blossom! It's awesome.
