Theophilus London Follows with Another Charming Mixtape, "I Want You"

First things first: you cannot go wrong starting anything with Marvin Gaye, not a mixtape, not a night of lovemaking, NOTHING. That said, Theophilus: this is smooth. If this mixtape were a liquid we would drink it out of a snifter. It plays out like your best summer night and stops at brunch in a 5-star hotel room with a strapping young person under 800 thread count sheets. If you've ever been in a room with Theophilus London you have no doubt noticed hes soft-spoken and maybe a bit aloof, which adds to how eager he is to listen. It's a trait that plays out also in how his ears are to the ground getting on the radar of Dam-Funk, and Hudson Mohawke.

His voice is commanding but simultaneously distant to the music. You're aware of his presence but its not overpowering. He lends his distinctive voice to the track almost as another instrument or flourish rather than using the track as a backdrop. His cover of "Oops (Oh My)" is probably one of our favorite tracks because Tweet made that song was the shit and Theophilus makes it even better. Mostly the mixtape is just fun. Drawing from funk, soul, jazz, electronic and even tropical sounds to afropop it's an all around enjoyable hour of music that will lighten the mood or maybe even create it. Just be careful dudes, there's enough vintage sound on here to get your parents into it too. Don't leave this laying around the house or you may come home to a parental jam session and as awesome as it is that Theophilus could make that happen, you can't afford the therapy. Download here and enjoy.
