If a summer getaway isn't on your list, there's always a mental vacation, by way of a Gilles Peterson's travels to Cuba. Gilles is the DJ with a memory bank for music like HSBC—he's got a worldly cache. His latest muse is Cuba where he recently traveled to check out what was bubbling in the city of Havana, which if you don't know has an insane music scene. Never mind that this place is the root and inspiration for so much of modern music, it's also hella vintage. The record store that Gilles is digging through seems like something straight out our dreams. His method/blind faith in just grabbing whatever looks good shows his true talent and genius.
The result of all this was the "Havana Cultura" album and now on June 7th, Havana Cultura Remixed is being released with newer renditions from some of the best. We're looking forward to playing it on our Sunday recovery mornings but knowing us we'll probably bust it out mid-bbq because that's how we live our lives. Check out Gilles breaking it down.
