Cookin Soul Pays Respect to Teddy Pendergrass on New Mixtape

Until Cookin Soul put together their mixtape tribute to Teddy Pendergrass, there have been a few imitations of Teddy. Flattering as T-Pain, and Jaheim may be from adopting the man’s name, to the eerie likeness of his voice, respectively, they are carbon copies. The real Teddy we’ve come to truly appreciate, canonized in the history books of rap, that was the direction for Cookin Soul’s dedication tape.

We heard Ghostface sample “Can We Try” for “Camay,” and Mobb Deep did justice to the loving confession “And If I Had” on “Cradle to the Grave.” Using some of those same gems from Teddy’s rap blueprint, Cookin’ Soul gathered Curren$y, Jadakiss, and Doo Wop to rap over the production collective’s remixes of the icon’s dramatic love songs.
