Bake Sale, “Meanwhile” MP3

May 06, 2010

During our angsty teenage years it always seemed like a good idea to climb out onto the roof and stare at nothing. Or to watch the sunrise because it was so deep. It wasn't really, but it felt like it was, so to say we're nostalgic for those days wouldn't be exactly right. Instead, we're just glad they existed when they did, especially when songs like Bake Sale's "Meanwhile" come our way. It's a downer of a song with a grungy monotone that may as well be coming from the mouth of Stephen Malkmus' daughter, and it feels like if we tried to go back on the roof and realized it was actually not that tight and just kind of cold and the shingles were scratching our legs. Sometimes reaching for the past feels the same as living in it.
