Sam Cooke's classics won't grow stale as long as there is a great voice to keep his legacy alive. Thanks to Melanie Fiona's latest cover of "Cupid" recorded for Billboard's Mashup Monday special, she sounds smitten with the similar endearment of Cooke's original from the 1960s. We come full circle today with her latest rendition of "Cupid" just a year after she banded together with ?uestlove for their Illadelphonics version on their Live Remix Jam Session of The Bridge. After the jump Melanie talks about the impact of Sam Cooke on her life, then watch her Billboard performance.
"The song 'Cupid,' it's such an honest love song, and it's so simple. I love the lyrics about it, I love the melody of it. When I was a little girl I remember hearing my dad play guitar to 'Cupid.' He used to be in a band, they would cover songs, and 'Cupid' was one of them they would play. And I would see my parents dance to this record when we would have family occasions. It's an amazing song that has a lot of feeling and emotional value to me just because it reminds me of my family and my upbringing and just kind of where I think i fell in love with music."
