DJ Drama, Cam’ron and Vado, Boss Of All Bosses 2.5 Mixtape

May 12, 2010

Now that it's getting warm but not consistently hot enough to have air conditioners conditioning, we find ourselves waking up in the middle of the night, sleepless and sweating. One recent favorite way to pass the time has been to watch old Rap City freestyles—specifically this one over and over. Coming right in the middle of what we like to refer to as Cam'ron's HOLY SHIT CAN THIS DUDE DO ANYTHING BAD?!??! period (before Killa Season but after Purple Haze), it's Cam'ron at his smirking asshole best, vocal inflection barely changing even though he's so clearly having a great time. He doesn't ever approach this level on Boss Of All Bosses 2.5, which inexplicably comes pretty quickly on the heels of Boss Of All Bosses 2 and makes us think it's just the tracks Cam and Vado presumed were throwaways until Cam was sitting in Jim Jones' car making friends again and was like, Oh shit! I need to get something out there now that people are thinking about me again. Whatever the case, there are good moments here. "Ya' Killin Me" is still just as menacing and haunting as when it first dropped, and "It's Our Party" takes a stab at Heatmakerz insanity and actually comes somewhat close. It's no Dipset reunion, but it's still worth your zero dollars to spend a couple minutes finding some personal favorites.
