Each week, FADER Media Style Director Chioma Nnadi will comment on the throwback style and fashion of a Suite903 artist. Today’s Re-Issue: Miles Davis.
Miles Davis was as prolific with his style as he was with his music, churning out solid records and wild trendsetting looks until the very end. This record was one of the last tracks he made before passing back in the jazzy-hip-hop heyday, so it makes sense that Easy Mo Bee is in this video. It's Davis' born day today which makes him a Gemini—multifaceted, multitalented and clearly quite the sartorial chameleon. I recently reviewed a new book on the Dark Magus, called We Want Miles, which breaks down his life into seven digestible chunks. Most people reference the early years for quintessential Davis coolness, but I've always had a soft spot for the wilder, more madcap looks that he was rocking at the end of his career. The bug-eyed sunnies and curly perm in the closing shot to this clip, are stylistic precursors to rap dudes like Eazy-E and Lil Wayne.
