As one half of garage duo, The Shouting Matches, a band he's been playing in on the low with fellow Eau Claire-native/Peter Wolf Crier drummer, Brian Moen. One of the most satisfying stretches of any Bon Iver show now is when Vernon and crew turn "Blood Bank" into a Neil Young-like burn, feedback and fire for miles. It's awesome because it highlights the fact that he can wail, that he's not just a dude with an acoustic guitar and sad songs to sing. Watch what he does to Son House's "Death Letter" above. It's outrageous.
