The Chemical Brothers new album, Further, is really good. Apologies to those who expected that much more than we did, but at least it's a happy surprise. For this record, the prolific collaborators opted to write everything themselves and then mix the sequence the record like a DJ set. It builds, breaks down, breathes. They've been active 18 years now, since their initiation of big beat, and here they sound fully in control of so many competing textures that the significance of that heavy experience is undeniable. It touches on Kraftwerk, Ibiza house, downtempo—anything under the sun driven by an electronic beat—and it all stays cohesive. Totally a fun listen for sand dunes or work desks.
