Video: The Roots, "Dear God 2.0"

The new Roots album How I Got Over drops tomorrow and it may be their best one in quite a while. The music is poignant and displays their ever-forward thinking and loyalty to not just hip-hop but music as an entity. They are truly hip-hop's only "band," each one a master of his instrument. The video for their first single, the sorrowful ballad of prayer "Dear God 2.0" examines a night in the life of a man who who plays quiet audience to a city full of characters and occurrences. Black Thought's character parallels the very god he may be praying to until the very end when he is overcome and shows us that yes, he is merely human and needs this prayer. It is a somber story but also one that sticks to the fact and has no theatrics. This is what The Roots do best: keep the music true and without excess. We appreciate it every time.
