Women with vocal qualities like those of Big Hurry's Kelly Tobias are few and far between: she's got an impossibly clear soprano that never cracks even in the higher registers and emits pure emotion with seemingly zero effort. Sistren: Bjork, Kelly Clarkson, that rad chick from Paramore, that rad chick from Life Without Buildings (get familiar). Early oughties emo dudes would have given their left nuts to sound like this (Jeremy Enigk excluded—motherfucker had the gift). Fortunately, Big Hurry is way more adventurous in style than that, filling their pop inclinations with ragged riffs, an implied affinity for lushness and some seriously fierce drum fills that sound like they're coming for your family. AND THEY'RE FROM PITTSBURGH! Which automatically bestows them with like, ten more gully points. Listen to all of their new EP below, and go say what up to them on their Tumblr and/or at their next show, which appears to be at a house party in Morgantown, West Virginia, on July 30.
