De Frank Professionals, “Afe Ato Yen Bio” MP3

This jam is so funky we made the stink face. The best thing about afro-beat is the ability to layer all sorts of music into one amazing sound. If you listen you can hear a two-step/Motown jam, disco, funk and soul all wrapped into one mind warp of a delicious melody. Also you just want to dance which makes sense because there are like a gazillion drum lines going all at once. There's just no sitting still when one is on. The Ghanan group De Frank Professionals were obviously right in their element of the '70s; it just sucks that the music probably wasn't even heard over here, until now. We'll enjoy it now though—a song about a tough time and the fresh start. Check for their album Afro-Beat Airways: West African Shock Waves out next month on the Analog Africa label.
