Cudi has a way of coming to life on the most emotionally heart-wrenching beats. This sample is no different. As he navigates his talk/sing-rapping over this haunting and tragic Choir of Young Believer's sample he walks light even though it is so heavy. This is probably where all of Cudi's appeal resides. He is so comfortable in darkness it's like he's strolling with night vision goggles.
He loves the hazy, affected melodies and will gladly take your hand and drag you down into the muck. For some of us this results in the opposite effect expected, as we revel in melancholy. Where his version turns up the bass drum we hear our heart beating in our ears and trust that we won't become suicidal by the end of this song. We arrive at the end just fine with some sort of romantic star gaze in our eyes. What crazy shit will you take us through this time Scott?
