We Saw Robyn Last Night and Almost Died from Good Vibes

July 30, 2010

Robyn is a pop star for a reason. Last night, she played a private, radio-sponsored show in New York, and while the venue was small indeed, it still felt like we were having an intimate tete-a-tete with the Swedish pixie. She emanates goodness, is a terrific dancer (she dropped a couple vintage vogue moves, even!) and has an inherent gift for crowd engagement—an essential charisma that rivals even that of Jay-Z (they have very similar stage presence, all burning light and greatness). But even her unique capacity for relating to her fans wouldn't work if she didn't have ridiculous talent and insane Songs, capital S. Running through her biggest hits and tracks from her forthcoming album, Body Talk Pt. 2, the strong, candylike nature of her voice was impossibly on pitch, her warble vibrating over the crowd like the green lasers of the club lights above her. In short, IT WAS AWESOME. We tried to film but The Man shut us down; fortunately iheartradio captured the moment. Check the "Dancing on My Own" fist dance!
