For the past few weeks Jesse Boykins III has turned into a conveyor belt of material: one week he's covering Lauryn Hill, then Corinne Bailey Rae, now Andre 3000. None are straight up jack moves of a predictable xenophobic recitation of other people's property (intellectual). Most of his tasteful remakes were leading up to his show with MeLo-X at Webster Hall where he opened with his melancholy take on "Prototype." For those on the outside of the JBIII experience, he's actually gotten his Andre Benjamin on in the past. It's a song, short and sweet most of JB's audiences know the words to. Mission accomplished.
