As bittersweet as the downsizing of video budgets has been a rude awakening to the music industry, M.I.A.'s heavy approach to graphic design for "XXXO" shows there's promise in smaller scales. Like her, we are
programmed accepting of the reality that people aren't spending college tuition money on music videos anymore because there's cheaper, more dynamic ways to illustrate the song. Log onto the site for M.I.A.'s NEET label imprint and you can soak up a psychedelic eye-banger of .gifs by photographer Jaime Martinez. The digitial medium is ultimately where all this mixed media get the most exposure, not on your television—that is unless you catch your videos on Music Choice On Demand. But at the end of the day, size doesn't really matter after all.
