Stream: Dead Gaze, “Emanuel Can’t Come Close Enough”

September 24, 2010

Dead Gaze singer Cole Furlow sounds like he's encased in Jell-O on this song, his voice jiggling and distant and alone. Rather than feeling like he's at arm's length, though, the effect brings him closer to you; they're the warbling coos of a dude who might actually be really sad. The tin-can effects aren't a gimmick or trend here—they're integral to the emotional resonance of the band, and "Emanuel Can't Come Close Enough" is like a blurry pop hug. Grab it on 7-inch vinyl in November from Fire Talk. Stream post jump.
