Soul Searching: More Love in Our Deserts

January 10, 2011

You already know: A young guy names Jared Lee Loughner killed six people and wounded 14 more outside an Arizona Safeway on Saturday, a Congresswoman and Federal Judge and nine year-old 9/11 baby among the victims. Evidence now suggests that Loughner planned the attack methodically, that he told classmates that the U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was stupid after he asked her a question in public and she answered him in Spanish. In the quick-aftermath of the shooting, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik (a Democrat who's won re-election eight times since 1980) made a surprising speech calling for clear-hearted thinking and criticizing the hostile political language, animosity and discrimination that has floured in America's desert. At a tongue tied moment, Dupnik said clearly that "the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous" and appeared in strange-harmony with another spirit-guide:

We're with B, want to live and raise babies in an America where people don't violently judge each other, can appreciate that all kinds of people who have made their homes here are stuck in the crosshairs, in some way. Watch Dupnik's original press conference, after the jump.
