Pure X, “Chain Reflection 1” and “Chain Reflection 2” MP3s

January 18, 2011

Part of the appeal of Pure X (formerly Pure Ecstasy, but it got complicated), is that they're able to coax super heavy shit out of soft reverb and some of the warmest drums around and still make it sound intensely pained. When they're condensing this whole vibe into four minute pop songs, it comes across as wildly confusing. A how-could-they-possibly-arrive-at-this-and-have-it-mean-that? series of moments. "Chain Reflection 1" and "Chain Reflection 2" absolutely do not sit in the pop zone. Instead they're longer pieces that dip in and out of coherence, but always buzz with this weird, sad electricity. Both pieces are available on vinyl right here. (via Chocolate Bobka)
