Video: Hail Mary Mallon, “Smock”

April 25, 2011

Rappers rapping while driving is always a welcome conceit for a music video. Rappers rapping while driving with creepy large headed masked men in the backseat is even better. Hail Mary Mallon, named after typhoid fever carrier Typhoid Mary (which could be a great name for a super-scientifical female rapper in of itself), is a collaborative effort from ex-Def Jux refugees Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz. "Smock (Live From The Burgundy Camary)" is completely menacing on a sonic level, but lighthearted structurally, with Rob and Aesop gleefully tag-teaming their bars. It's like if Run DMC rapped about foxholes and "apocalypse chocolate chips" over goth synths. HMM's Are You Gonna Eat That drops June 7th on Rhymesayers.
