A case could be made that BG is one of the most underrated rappers around. Sure, we could point to the go-to HE INVENTED THE TERM BLING BLING argument that gets thrown out as the reason why people still pay attention to what he does, even when he does barely anything, but that's not really saying anything about why those that care still care. BG has this low frog's croak of a voice—it is tirelessly cool sounding. BG will always sound like BG, no matter what song he gets on—he doesn't mold to fit tracks, the tracks mold to fit him. In the wrong hands, this is terrible. A dude rapping dark and low over a really happy beat often sounds tacked on and janky, but BG somehow makes it work. Could be the undercurrent of weariness in his voice, or the way that it weaves through every beat he gets on like he's writing to avoid the drums. Either way, here's a short video of him rapping over Birdman's "Fire Flame," a song that came out last year. The effects are terrible, and the car is either fake or just really shiny, but we're watching it because it's BG, and that says something all on its own.
