Getting Weird With Human Ear Music

May 13, 2011

Seems like a million years ago that we posted the dusky, vaguely Fleetwood Mac-influenced "Heart Shaped Rock" by Nite Jewel and Jason Grier, the man behind label/collective Human Ear Music. Turns out it wasn't even a whole year—but nevertheless, we've been stoked to check out this compilation of LA-area (and non-LA-area, like Laurel Halo, who contributes a beautiful ambient piece) weirdos making slightly left-of-center pop music. "Heart Shaped Rock" makes an appearance here, as does Michael Pisaro's bizarre field recording that kinda sorta features Van Halen. Not to get too nerdy, but we knew that one was gonna be weird from the second we saw the Soundcloud waveform. Hopefully, we'll never have to type that sentence again. The compilation will be available on CD or cassette next Tuesday.
