At LCD Soundsystem‘s last show at Madison Square Garden, James Murphy kept most extemporaneous chitchat to a minimum, mostly giving shout outs and mini-soliloquies about good times had. But he did take a moment to make an important aside, and pressure the good state of New York to legalize the practice of his favorite hobby, mixed martial arts. After years of touring, Murphy knew he’d have plenty of time to work out/hurt people, and who wants to go to Connecticut or New Jersey to do that? Fortunately his wishes were granted just two months later, when, this week, the NY State Senate legalized MMA. No word yet on whether or not Murphy will be competing or if he will just continue to kick that Michael Musto dummy in his basement.

MMA is not legal in New York. It passed a senate vote, just as it did last year. It has to go through the assembly, and it will not be voted through, just as it wasn’t last year.
JAMES MURPHY WILL MAKE IT LEGAL
Yeah, Forrest is right. It will next go to an Assembly floor for a final vote. Unfortunately MMA’s biggest hater Bob Reilly will likely do whatever he can to make sure it’s not legal in NY.
