Kanye’s Official “Monster” Video “Shall be Taken” As Art

June 06, 2011

When the "Monster" video—full of headless, waxy, dead-eyed and too-thin models—leaked last December, it was met with a collective grimace and small backlash. Now it's short YouTube life has been resuscitated, with the protection of an instructive disclaimer: "The following content is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any group of people. It is an art piece and it shall be taken as such." Which is another way for Kanye West to say, my presence is a present, kiss my ass. The part you'll be able to stomach, a dominatrix face-off between Nicki Minaj and the pinker version of herself, starts at 3:40.
