Thrintage: Fox & Fawn

June 22, 2011

FADER contributors cross boroughs, counties and states to find fine thrifted and vintage pieces on the cheap for our column, Thrintage. This week, Maia Stern hits up Fox & Fawn in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

A couple of weeks ago, on a jog to McCarren Park and back, I noticed vintage/record shop Fox & Fawn—it's funny how much pull a simple clothing rack outside a store can have on my wandering eyes. I stopped in on my run home, sweaty and beleaguered, but determined. They buy recycled clothes daily, but also carry a slew of new and old records and tapes. I ended up going back the next weekend to fully scope the place out and oggle at their assortment of accessories.

I didn't buy either of these, and I've regretted it ever since. One of the rules of thrift shopping is that if you love it, buy it, because you might never see it again. The straw one on the left would be perfect for a haul to the beach.

The only thing better than a brand new pair of Dr. Martens is a slightly worn in pair of Dr. Martens. Or three! They're more comfortable if someone else breaks them in.

Remember these bottles of multicolored sand from childhood? Makes for a perfect decoration partner to the ceramic cat.

The record shop in the back also has a nice selection of men's clothing and shoes. Clarks look good on pretty much everyone.

Any Psychic TV record is a good find.

To be able to browse through tapes and records is a nice addition to sifting through recycled garb.
