FADER/MoMA PS1 Warm Up Mix: FaltyDL

July 07, 2011

Every Saturday every summer, MoMA PS1 presents Warm Up, a event series taking place in their enormous courtyard. The museum—MoMA's longstanding sister site in Long Island City, Queens—is a lightning rod for new and exciting artists, and each week's performers inhabit a similar space in the music world. To ensure a great, current and diverse schedule, the lineup—with oversight from MoMA PS1 director Klaus Biesenbach and organized by MoMA PS1 curatorial assistant Eliza Ryan—is selected by a team of heavy hitters: Dean Bein, head of True Panther Sounds; Kris Chen, head of A & R at XL Recordings; Robin Carolan, head of Tri Angle Records; Jonathan Galkin, co-founder of DFA Records; Brandon Stosuy, senior writer for Stereogum and contributing editor for The Believer; and Matt Werth, label head of RVNG Intl. Every Thursday throughout the summer, as a warm up to Warm Up, FADER and MoMA PS1 will be posting an exclusive mix from one of the artists performing. This week, it's FaltyDL, New York's emissary to the London-based world of dance. But because he's a resident of great melting pots (NYC first, USA second), Falty's uses an welcome mishmash of music in both his production and DJ sets, touching on everything from acid house to afrobeat. He said about the playing the event: "I am really looking forward to playing this party for a number of reasons: 1. It's outdoors. I haven't DJ'd outside yet this summer, and it's always a treat to hear the music in an open space. 2. It's daytime. People will show up and dance and sweat in the sunlight. That takes a certain type of ego-less individual who wont dress like it's Miami and pose for a camera every five seconds. Or will they? Big up MoMA and PS1, I went last year and it is a real vibe." Download the mix below and see FaltyDL live, along with Four Tet, Sbtrkt, Bronze, Matthewdavid and the Turbotax DJs this Saturday at PS1.
