Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Justin Thomas Kay talks about a pair of KR3W Denim’s shoes.

My friend Malia moved out to California a bit ago with her boyfriend to take up a new gig at KR3W Denim Co. I hadn't seen her in a while before she moved, but she helped me through some tough times some years back and was sort of the older sister I never knew I had, extolling wisdom whenever I needed and usually being right about everything.

Not too long after she moved, I got an e-mail from her about some new footwear KR3W had produced. She recommended I cop a pair and I gladly took her advice for the umpteenth time. Guess what? She's right! Again! After just one day of wearing, they've proven themselves to be the perfect summer shoe. Outwardly clean and simple but with an insole built with the comfort of sneaker (and without the bulk), I can already tell these are going to get some serious everyday usage. They're the perfect mix between a workplace friendly dress shoe with the low profile and comfort of a pair of Vans. I can also already see the total hesher influence Malia has had on the brand, which makes me more than happy to rep these. Looks like she'll have as much influence on them as she's always had on me.
