The true gem of new Air France affiliate Star Slinger‘s pitched-up “Eyes Be Closed” remix isn’t the newly emboldened Washed Out vocals, given real urgency as they enter chipmunk territory, but rather the 30-second manic line of melody that starts just after the one minute mark. Filling the jam-space normally reserved for noodling bass work, the synth solo buzzes through the track like a caffeinated little ant in an ant farm—dealing with the glass walls somebody else built, but making his own loopy magic in between.
