For months now we've been searching for Rick Rock. The hyphy architect and rap's last verifiable production genius (THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE, IF IT WERE HYPERBOLE WHY WOULD THIS PARENTHETICAL ASIDE BE IN ALL CAPS?) has been quiet for nearly a year now, conspicuously absent even from the last two installments of E-40's Revenue Retreivin' series. Well, he's back now, as he tells us many times in the titular track from his forthcoming ROCKET album, and rapping in a low budget Youtube clip. While the beat isn't quite as epic as his most epic slaps, it's still pretty damn epic. It's like that old classical 2000-style Dr. Dre plod if it were warped and amplified by Rock's robotic soundbanks. A pair of Beats By Dre headphones is featured prominently in the video so maybe that explains the connection. I'm too poor to afford them so I don't know but I'm just going to assume that every producer who wears Beats By Dre will end up making beats that sound a little like they were made by Dre. Whether or not that is true is irrelevant because Rick Rock is back and everybody's celebratin'. (via Beerandrap)
