Interview: Rachel Roy

After the hustle of staging her spring 2012 show in broad daylight at Lincoln Center, we pulled designer Rachel Roy away from the crowd to chat about a couple of things, like her desire to embolden fashionably unconfident women and how it feels to dress Michelle Obama. She professed a love for, amongst other things, Pamela Love jewelry and mixing prints and textures in her wardrobe. For this go around, Roy gleaned inspiration from colonial Vietnam (where we just traveled for our most recent fashion story), citing the movie L'amant as a direct reference.
