Diplowatch 2011 #14: New Major Lazer

October 12, 2011

In an interview with GQ’s Sean Fennessy, published on their website earlier this month, Diplo said, "I feel like I'm a snowball." He's working with Radiohead, Beyonce, No Doubt and Shakira, going to anger management classes when he has to and not sleeping a lot. Last year Major Lazer was played in clubs all over the world but never on the radio, except when reworked as "Run The World (Girls)," Beyonce's flopped single. But Diplo considers the last Major Lazer album his most successful project, something that started off not making sense but ended tight, if not profitably. He and Switch are going in for round two to "see how great it can be." The duo reported their progress live from paradise in June. Today, Zane Lowe debuted a track, "Original Don," on his radio show. Produced by Diplo with Partysquad, it's an epic in four movements, featuring fat tubas and plenty of air horn.
