Video: Fatima Al Qadiri, “Vatican Vibes”

October 12, 2011

You know how, when you watch the trailer for like every comic book movie ever, it's always got some scene with serious looking dudes walking determinedly through metal bunkers with hissing doors, moving holographic touchscreens around, injecting each other with high-tech serums...we could go on. It's an ultra sterile look at a future that's either already here or will never exactly happen—but it gives everything a sort of covert, high tech/low tech-you-have-no-idea-what-is-going-on-right-under-your-nose vibe. Fatima Al Qadiri, who you may remember from this excellent Muslim Trance mix, or who you may be somewhat familiar with as Ayshay (her much more experimental, hypnotic project), has a series of videos to go with her upcoming Genre-Specific Xperience EP (out October 25th on UNO). Above is the video for "Vatican Vibes," directed by Tabor Robak. It's an engrossing thing to watch, filled with all sorts of shots that conjure up a similar idea of sterile futurism. This video, along with the rest of the videos will be premiering at The New Museum on October 21st. If you're around, we highly recommend checking it out.
