When I was about eight or nine, my sister (eight years older than me) invited me to tag along with her on a date. Obviously, she wasn't that into the dude who was taking her out. Poor guy. Having giving up hope of getting anywhere romantically with my sister, he retreated to the balm of his extensive Rush catalog. I remember him casting a knowing glance back at me, wagging his index finger at the Rush pendant dangling from the rear view mirror and saying, "This is THE BEST BAND ever." He probably still loves Rush, the way Judd Apatow or that air-drummer guy or, apparently, El-P might. The latter, remixed his new single, "drones over BKLYN," over the epic stylings of "Tom Sawyer" using a program called Legitimix, a platform that allows producers and DJs to legally sample music from other sources without going through a sample-clearing process. Stream the results, below. El-P's new album, Cancer For Cure will be out on Fat Possum eventually.
