Line Item: Luar Zepol’s Neoprene Smock

December 01, 2011

Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our new column, Line Item, we'll be asking some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. Today, designer Raul Lopez tells us about a neoprene smock from Luar Zepol’s fall collection.

The inspiration for this piece comes from altering the normal everyday idea of how someone should dress in a corporate setting, be it in the office, at a meeting or on Wall Street. It's a bit disappointing that the everyday man does not need a suit that really makes an impression. I wanted to add a little femininity to it. It's made out of foamed neoprene, which is the material normally used for insulation from the cold and sometimes shock protection. It's like a shield, which protects the chest, back and pelvic area. Sort of like Medieval times, when they wore just enough materials for protection where it's needed most.
