Oakland born, Hollywood-based singer Phlo Finister is giving strong ’94 Aaliyah vibes in baggy denim and Tommy boxers. It’s not a direct homage, Finister claims, “I fuck with Tommy Hilfiger, simple as that.” The candy-colored, playful video—Phlo’s girl posse in a car, a house party with a teenaged band and Furbys on the speakers—is fun. Mike G, a friend from Finister’s time at Crenshaw High School, The Jealous Guys and Venus X are there, having a convincingly good time, but the cameos may not do “Shades” complete justice. The former model is a confident vocalist, easy-riding a hit beat by T-Wiz aka Troy Noka, who’s worked with Chris Brown, Ciara and the Backstreet Boys. other than her stealing Aaliyah’s look there is nothing notable about this. The music is pure crap and I don’t know why you would post it.
This is not a homage. This is a lame copy of Aaliyah. If you were going to pay homage to the girl give it 100% not this mediocre crap.
