Stream: The Babies, "Trouble"

Sometimes the word "pretty" is the only descriptor you can think of for a piece of music, a cheesy, five-cent word, maybe, but one that sums up the sweetest reasons for liking a song. The Babies are Kevin Morby of Woods, Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls, Justin Sullivan and Nathanael Stark, and they have a new record coming out on Real Estate-member Matt Mondanile's New Images label on January 10. First single, "Trouble," is all acoustic guitar and boy-girl vocals, and it's so pretty, the prettiest thing we've heard all week, as pretty as some of the best moments of a Dead Moon song or a piece of white lace on your dining room table. We will listen to this record late at night with only one lamp turned on in our apartment hopefully under the warmest duvet cover.
