XL has just announced their signing of Chicago singer Willis Earl Beal. His record Acousmatic Sorcery will be out March 20th via the label's new imprint Hot Charity. "Evening's Kiss" is the first official look at the singer who has drawn a good deal of ink in his local press—check out this story on him in the Chicago Reader. According to his drawing, you can call him and he'll sing to you, but we just got a service not available notification. Which is less nice sounding than his voice. Take a listen below to "Evening's Kiss," a simple song that owes as much to the acoustic indie of Elliott Smith or Mt Eerie as it does to the Chicago blues of Big Joe Willliams and Sonny Boy WIlliamson.
