Video: Lee Ranaldo, “Off the Wall”

February 09, 2012

Lee Ranaldo’s "Off the Wall" is a far cry from Sonic Youth’s more experimental days, but that's not necessarily a surprise. Isn't that the way it normally goes? When you're young and brash, it's about trying weird new things and pushing boundaries. Hopefully when you get older you carve out a comfortable spot for yourself in music—happily making the jams you want to make. Ranaldo has done just that on his gorgeous solo record Between the Times and the Tides (Matador, March 20th). Now there's a video for "Off the Wall," which mixes live footage with not live footage. It's a nice song, and we mean that as a high compliment.
