"Arch That Back," a sparse party slap from appropriately-named California producer Got Slapz, doesn't try to get too adventurous, but that's to its advantage. One strength the young Cali rap scene seems to have is an openness to dancefloor-oriented hip-hop that operates primarily as hip-hop, rather than the club sounds that dominate the pop charts (and second halves of Nicki Minaj albums). By limiting their scope to this world, it lets producers get more experimental within the confines of satisfying dancers. Got Slapz' production work here utilizes space, letting the beat breathe in order to free up dancers to work around it.
