From Spank Rock’s Everything is Boring and Everyone is a Fucking Liar, “Car Song” is a thumping track packed with urgent futurism. Santigold sings in a breathy coo on the hook and sweetly on the bridge—a positive sound of what’s to come, as if 2323 blooms with fun energy even though we’re still driving cars instead of using jetpacks or flightmobiles. But when Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces get their hands on it, “Car Song” becomes more of a dystopian vision, with Santi’s tone teetering toward cautionary tale, her singing about missing car keys sounding seriously lamentable instead of an “oops!” moment. “Car Song” will be released digitally as a single on April 10th, hand-in-hand with a remix EP of four songs from Everything is Boring.
