Stream Some Remixes of Lemonade’s “Neptune”

April 06, 2012

On the original version of "Neptune," Lemonade presented insecurity in soft focus. They didn't really drop their good-times-at-sunset tropical vibe, so much as mold explicit sadness into it to create a modern, melancholy version of what we think of when we think of post Graceland pop music. It is, of course, more complicated than that. What Lemonade do actually sounds very little like Graceland, instead pulling in elements from every genre imaginable until their music is just one overwhelmed stew of world-music-informed hedonistic insecurity. It's a tricky line to walk, but on their upcoming sophomore album Diver they do it well. Below, stream a series of remixes of "Neptune," all of which sound very different from each other while retaining the original's unique bummer energy. Get all of them on vinyl right here.
