Cop A Look: Prodigy

May 31, 2012

There is nothing wrong with a little controversy, and no other word is better in describing the nature of English electronic act Prodigy. The band was an unlikely mainstream act, embracing the things the mainstream is supposed to ignore: sex, drugs and violence. The video for their most famous song, Smack My Bitch Up, was seen as so offensive, MTV would only show it between 1 and 5 a.m. (back when this wasn't the only time they showed videos), and eventually topped the networks "Most Controversial Video" list.

The band's visual appearance was a large part of their appeal. When they first rose out of the depths of the English underground rave scene, their style was ska inspired, with a baggier fit that a lot of people loved in the early ’90s. We've given you some options below that are a bit more modernized, but will still capture the attention of anyone that sees you walking down the street. Loud colors, weird prints, weirder haircuts, and tattoos all work when paired with items that are a bit more subtle, because when being, or looking, controversial, it's important to be able to know when it's time to back down. Too much controversy can get you in trouble.
