Lil Wayne Cancels Nicki Minaj’s Summer Jam Appearance

June 04, 2012

On Sunday, Nicki Minaj was slated to headline Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert, declaring in the morning that, "history will be made." But the only thing that will go down in the books was the decision for Minaj to not take the stage. While introducing Kendrick Lamar at an outdoor pre-show, Hot 97 morning DJ Peter Rosenberg said on stage, "I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here. I see them. I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing 'Starships' later—I'm not talking to y'all right now. Fuck that bullshit. Bullshit. I'm here to talk about real hip-hop shit." This is not the first time that Rosenberg has spoken against "Starships." In February, he compared the single to tracks by Ke$ha and Katy Perry and said, "I mean no disrespect to Nicki Minaj, but it was nice having you in hip-hop." Soon after Rosenberg's comments Sunday afternoon, Lil Wayne cancelled Minaj's scheduled set, tweeting, "Young Money ain't doing Summer Jam." Nicki confirmed, saying, "I got above and beyond for my fans. But won't ever go against Wayne's word. What he says, goes." Her on-stage guests were to include Cam'ron, Nas, Foxy Brown, Beenie Man, Lauryn Hill and a slew of her YMCMB family. Ultimately, Nas and Hill performed in place of Minaj.

Update 6/4/2012: Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex had harsh words for Minaj during his Summer Jam set Sunday evening, saying "If you lost the fucking streets, it's your fault. I'm dedicated to tearing you down." Still, Flex has announced that she'll appear on his radio show this evening at 7PM EST to hash things out:
