To avoid using coarser expletives, Fiona Apple has opted for a metaphor of mythological proportion to describe an erstwhile lover, proving that, despite her long absence, she’s still got that incantational, witchy knack for turning a phrase. Liken, liken you to a werewolf the way you left me for dead/ But I admit that I provided a full moon. Apple’s forthcoming The Idler Wheel… (out June 18th on Epic) will likely be the thing that goes bump in the night for both devoted fans and a new generation of lovelorn listeners.
