Lauryn Hill Faces Prison After Pleading Guilty to Federal Tax Charges

June 29, 2012

Earlier this month, we reported that Lauryn Hill was facing charges from the IRS, owing $1.8 million in income taxes for the years 2005-07. In court today, Hill pled guilty. The singer could face up to three years in prison and $75,000 in fines when she is sentenced in November. Even though Hill did take responsibility for the the charges, her attorney, Nathan Hockman, believes that she was targeted specifically for her star status saying, "There are many people in society who fail to file their taxes on time who only face civil liability… They chose Ms. Hill in particular because of who she was."
