Beck, Tyondai Braxton Confirmed for Philip Glass Remix Compilation

August 07, 2012

In celebration of Philip Glass’ 75th birthday, Glass and Beck will release a two-disc compilation, called Rework. The record will feature remixes of Glass' work by Beck, Tyondai Braxton, Nosaj Thing and Memory Tapes, among others. (Oneohtrix Point Never's remix of Glass' score for the film Koyaanisqatsi, which you can stream here, was rejected.) In FADER #79, this year's Philip Glass Icon Issue, Beck discussed Glass' influence:

Someone like Philip Glass has brought certain ideas that were so new, but also ideas that have completely been assimilated. You know, it’s a really interesting kind of duality. He just crisscrosses across all these different cultural tangents and byways. It is something that I would hope to emulate, this sort of opening up a dialogue of what’s possible, where your music can exist and participate, whether it’s in film or with writers or visual artists... I think he’s very generous in that way, that he stays open to new music and different generations coming.

The compilation will be released October 23rd. Glass' opera Einstein on the Beach returns to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in September; read FADER’s oral history of the composer's career here.
