Upstate With: Swans

August 28, 2012

Like all their records, Swans’ deep, dark new LP The Seer (out today) sounds fit for a decayed, gargoyle-ridden church in a blighted city. But when we visited their upstate New York rehearsal space, we found Michael Gira and his bandmates in a scenic, green environment with a stray rooster running around. They were holed up rehearsing up to eight hours a day (sans ear plugs!) for their upcoming tour, and getting ready to roll out a 32-minute-long opus from the record. On that beautiful summer's day, Gira spoke to us about his latest record and played us some new material.
